The Distinguished Young Woman of Rowan County for 2017 is Molly Simpson, from Morehead.
Molly’s achievements include: Governor's Scholar, Communication and Social Theory • KY representative, Duo Interpret at Natl. Speech & Debate Qualifiers • KESDA, 1st, 3rd and 6th in various speech events, 2016 • KHSSL, 1st and 4th in speech events, 2016 • Event finalist, 22 speech tournaments (1-3) • RCSHS Citizenship Award, 2015-16 • Future Problem Solvers, District and Regional winners (1-2) • 2015 George Mason Patriot Games, 6th place in Dramatic Interpretation • 2016 Glenbrooks Tournament, top 12 in Dramatic Interpretation •
In addition, Molly’s activities include: Captain, Speech and Debate team • Troupe leader, Thespian Society • Science Club • National Honor Society • Acting and design roles in four high school theatre productions • Acting roles in two community theatre productions • Academic Team, Future Problem Solving (1-2) • Participant in and promoter of Space Trek program (MSU)
